NIFFF 2019 WINNERS

NIFFF 2019: THE NIFFF STRIKES AGAIN

The Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) concluded its overview of world genre cinema on Saturday evening, after 9 days filled with emotion and no less than 350 guests. Attendance reached new heights with a total of 48’000 (2018: 44’000) including 34’000 public cinema tickets (2018: 32’000) and 39’000 entries including press, school and private screenings. As next year’s 20th anniversary nears, the NIFFF solidifies its position as a major event for Swiss and international films with a steady growth. This year, the jury selected two works that give prominence to supernatural humour. The H.R. Giger ‘Narcisse’ award (CHF 10,000 provided by the City of Neuchâtel) was awarded to fantasy comedy EXTRA ORDINARY from Irish filmmakers Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman. Starring Saturday Night Live star Will Forte, the film stood out thanks to its remarkable sense of humour that has already made it a cult film of 2019. In addition, the international jury rewarded the astoundingly creative JESUS SHOWS YOU THE WAY TO THE HIGHWAY from Miguel Llansó with the Best Production Design award (CHF 5,000 provided by the CSEM). An outcome that shows creativity always pays off.
