VENDREDIS DE LA PEUR
Friday, April 26, 9 p.m. at Capitole 1 (Lausanne)
Every two months, the Capitole transforms into a sacred place for genre cinema by putting thrillers, horror films, fantasy films and the likes front and centre. The Cinémathèque suisse and the NIFFF are joining forces to unearth horror classics and B-movie gems, and give these films the exposure they deserve.
Whet your appetite for the EAT THE RICH program on May 31 with THE WICKER MAN (Robin Hardy, 1973). Dive into this British folk horror gem that spins the retrospective’s theme with a twist of cruel pagan rites.

THE MUMMY
Stephen Sommers
US, 1999, 125 minutes, original language with subtitles
1719 BC. For daring to steal his fiancée from the Pharaoh, the high priest Imhotep is mummified alive in a secret crypt in Hamunaptra. In 1923, the adventurer O’Connell discovers the ruins of Hamunaptra. Imhotep's curse is about to come true. A cult film that fits into a franchise that reflects Hollywood's fascination with archaeologists and ancient Egypt. Those concerned with historical accuracy, refrain!

LA CHIMERA
Alice Rohrwacher
IT/FR/CH, 2023, 134mn, vostfr
Back in his small town on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Arthur reunites with his gang of tombaroli, plunderers of Etruscan tombs and archaeological wonders. Arthur has a gift that he uses for his fellow bandits: he feels the emptiness. The emptiness of the earth where the remnants of a bygone world lie. A fairy tale, burlesque, and exuberant narrative.

The Festival
This event is mainly dedicated to one genre — that is fantasy, or fantastic films.
Asian cinema and digital creation are the two additional topics that complete the picture.
The festival and its 3 labels — NIFFF EXTENDED “the future of cinema”, NIFFF INVASION “a pluridisciplinary approach to fantasy for everyone”, and NIFFF ON TOUR “visionary worlds of fiction” have become staples for industry professionals, audiences and the next generation of Swiss filmmakers alike.
