But tensions arise and keep on growing, until Grace’s dark past comes knocking on the door.
Just like last year’sHereditary(NIFFF 2018), The Lodgeimmerses its audience in the horror of family relations. Superbly shot, the film creates a bone-chilling atmosphere that is reminiscent of the genre’s greatest classics – not a surprise given the fact that the legendary Hammer studio is producing, with the directing duo of the terrifying Goodnight Mommy(2014) at the helm. Bring a change of underwear.
Veronika Franz, born in 1965 in Vienna, used to be a critic for Austrian newspaper Kurier. In 1997, she starts working in the industry with documentarist Ulrich Seidl as an artistic collaborator. Born in 1985 in Horn, Severin Fiala studied at the Filmakademie Wien. After directing their documentary Kern(2012), Franz and Fiala made Goodnight Mommy(2014), a horror film that was discussed the world over for its ghastly atmosphere. The Lodgeis their second feature, and their first in the English language.
